NLSIU

The existing Campus of NLSIU consists of approximately 23 acres of land. This campus has a linear profile running to almost a kilometre of length along its longer side. The master plan proposal has taken advantage of this feature and created a master plan guideline outlining the various possibilities and directions for growth.

The existing site has a lot of trees and is not overburdened with development, like a lot of campuses in India. This can be a very good opportunity to create a model campus for the future which has quality architecture and yet keeps a fine balance with nature and the environment.

Keeping the environmental concerns in mind the intent here is to make minimum changes, demolition and yet try and achieve the objectives set out in the master plan proposal. We propose removing the West side block of the existing building and use that opportunity to open up the existing courtyard of the OAB, to connect to the open space on the western side, which furthers links across to the 300-seater classroom. This means we are retaining about 70 percent of the OAB and reusing and refurbishing to create a new experience.
